Sonny Smith Elam, the son of the late Cora Parks Elam and Dock Elam, the brother of twenty three children twelve girls and twelve boys. Sonny is the last of the liter and he was second to last of the boys born. He was born June 5, 1936, in Lincolnton, GA.
Sonny never married and has no children. They were largest family in Lincoln County. They were sharecroppers and did not have a formal education. However, Sonny could tell you many things about farming on how and when to plant crops and pick cotton. As time moved forward and somethings changed he worked at Reed’s Chicken Plant and was employed with the United States Postal Service in Augusta, GA while living with his sister.
Sonny loved church from early childhood, if he had the opportunity to learn reading and writing, I Gene Bohler is sure that he would have been a preacher. When we as youngsters would play house he always played the part of the preacher.
Sonny leave to cherish many precious memories for all who knew him. His church family Broadway Baptist Church in Augusta, many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends in Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, New Jersey and California.
