Born on May 14, 1942, in the serene town of Lincolnton, GA, Minnie Bell was the beloved daughter of Garfield Reid and Mamie Harrison Reid. Even from a young age, it was clear that Minnie Bell possessed a rare capacity for empathy and compassion. Educated in the Lincoln County Public Schools, she grew into a remarkable woman with a heart full of love and a mind brimming with wisdom.
Minnie Bell's proudest accomplishment came when she accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined Newberry Missionary Baptist Church. Her profound faith gave her strength and served as a guiding light throughout her entire life. She found solace in the peaceful sanctuary of the church, nurturing her spirit while forging everlasting bonds with fellow congregants.
As a devoted homemaker, Minnie Bell dedicated herself to creating a nurturing environment for her family. She cherished nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren, filling their lives with laughter and joy. Every moment spent in their company was treasured by Minnie Bell, leaving lasting memories etched in their hearts.
Music held great significance in Minnie Bell's life; it was a source of solace and inspiration. The melodies that resonated within her soul brought comfort during both joyful celebrations and challenging times. Whether attending family gatherings or participating in community events, she found solace and camaraderie through shared musical experiences.
Ever welcoming and kind-hearted, Minnie Bell never met a stranger. Her warm smile and gentle demeanor touched the lives of countless individuals fortunate enough to cross paths with her. Minnie keep the memories alive in her heart of her husband Roosevelt, her two sons, Walter Reid, and Billy Ray Reid, and her siblings, Shelly Reid, Franklin Reid, and James Reid as long as she lived.
On December 10, 2023, Minnie Bell Elam peacefully passed away in the comfort of her residence, leaving a void in the lives of those who loved her dearly. She will forever be cherished by her surviving family, including her children—Donald Reid of Augusta, GA, Lena (Pierre) Gartrell of Washington, GA, Fannie (Clarence) Elam-Brewer of Thomasville, NC, Quillette (Howard) Elam-Terry of McCormick, SC, Quiller (Kimberly) Elam of Lincolnton, G; her god-son – Cedric Beck of Lincolnton, GA; her sister, Mildred Reid Prince of Appling, GA—and her 13 grandchildren, great-granddaughter of the home, Rylie Gartrell, and 12 other great-grandchildren and a god grandson, Denious Jackson.
Minnie Bell's memory will be kept alive by her sisters-in-law Lena Bell (Jimmy) Ellison, Rosa Lee Reid, and JoAnn Elam; daughter-in-law Elise Reid; brothers-in-law Jessie (Glenda) Elam, Robert Elam, James Elam; special cousin Lillie R. Burns; and dear friends Gladys Harrison, Willie Eva Bennett, and Mary Lou Bussey.
As we bid farewell to Minnie Bell Elam in this earthly realm, let us remember the lessons she taught us by embodying kindness and compassion.
