On July 4, 2024, the world lost a remarkable soul as Lucille Zellars Norman passed away at Doctors Hospital of Augusta. She was born on January 14, 1949, in her beloved hometown of Lincolnton, GA, to her loving parents Beulah Lewis Zellars and Tom Harris.
Lucille accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and dedicated herself to serving the Lord. She was an integral part of Parks Grove FBH church, where she served on the Mother Board. Additionally, she had been a member of Solomon Pool Church, contributing as a member of the usher board and church secretary.
Lucille was formally married to the late Phil Norman, JR. and to that union, three beautiful children were born.
Mother Lucille will be remembered for her dedication and hard work during her 30-year tenure as the head of housekeeping for the GA Department of Natural Resources until her well-deserved retirement in 2012. Her commitment to ensuring a clean and welcoming environment touched the lives of many.
One of Lucille's fondest memories revolved around dressing up for church with her impeccable suits and hats, showcasing her impeccable style and grace. Lucille attended school in Lincoln County and was a proud member of the Westside High School Class of 1970, Lucille valued education and continuous learning throughout her life.
Described as loving, kind, and always ready to welcome others with open arms, Mother Lucille's caring nature extended beyond her professional life. She found joy in cooking and baking delicious meals, sewing beautiful creations, fishing in the tranquility of nature, and actively participating in church activities.
In the face of adversity, Lucille remained a pillar of strength for her family and friends. Her loving and caring nature touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a beacon of light in times of darkness and a source of comfort to those around her.
Mother Lucille is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Mrs. Lettrice (Derrick) Zellars-Little of Cypress, TX, and a devoted, son Mr. Phil Norman III of Lincolnton, GA: Seven grandchildren, Mr. Jared Slack of Beaumont, TX, Mr. Nelson Demarius Barksdale, Mr. Jamal Norman both of Lincolnton, GA, Ms. JaKayla Norman, Mr. AJ Harris, Mr. Phil Clark Norman all of Augusta, GA and Ms. Addison Little of Cypress, Texas; Four great -grandchildren, Ms. Kensley Barksdale, Mr. Karson Barksdale, Ms. Kaidence Norman, and Ms. Kai Norman; sister-in-law Ms. Betty Zellars of Lincolnton, GA, and a devoted friend, Will Turner. She is preceded in death by her daughter Phylliss Ann Norman Harris and siblings T.Z. Zellars, Terry Zellars, Tutt Zellars, Jr., Elbert Zellars, Beulah Mae Freeman, Barbara Ann Hogan, and Carrie Robinson.
The memories created with Lucille will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
In honor of Lucille's life well-lived, let us come together to celebrate the legacy she leaves behind and find comfort in the cherished memories she gifted us all. May she rest in peace knowing she was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all whose lives she touched.
